How your total is calculated
Freight is charged by weight, per package. If a box is light but bulky its dimensional weight (length x width x height, divided by 139) may be used instead of what the scale says. A fuel surcharge applies per package, and Jamaica Customs may assess duty on packages valued over US$100 C.I.F. Why weight is not always what the scale says
A duvet, a lampshade and a box of trainers can weigh almost nothing and still fill a pallet position. When a package's dimensional weight — length x width x height divided by 139 — is greater than its actual weight, the dimensional figure is what gets charged. This is standard across air freight, and it is why a big light box can cost more than a small heavy one.
